Unclaimed Ottawa County Checks
In an effort to make sure that every individual receives the money from a check(s) that was written to him or her, the County Treasurer is posting the list of unclaimed checks showing individuals who were sent a check from Ottawa County but the issued check was never cashed.
If your name appears on the list please call the phone number next to your name to speak with the issuing County department. You will need to identify yourself and answer questions that will help us verify that you are the person to whom the money should go. Upon completion of the necessary documentation a new check will be sent to you.
Unclaimed Checks as of January 26, 2012
The law (Public Act 29 of 1995) regarding unclaimed property (including checks) has recently been re-written to shorten the time to three years before items must be turned over to the State of Michigan. After you have checked out the list on Ottawa County’s site, you may also want to check the State of Michigan Department of Treasury Unclaimed Property to determine if they are holding anything that might belong to you.
